What Is Winch Rope?

Winch Rope is a specialized type of rope that can be used with gas or electric winches. It is a heavy rope that has high tensile strength and is used for pulling vehicles or other objects. It is also commonly used in off-roading, mining, commercial fishing and in other industries. Synthetic Winch Rope Versus Wire Cable Over the last decade or two, synthetic rope has overtaken wire cable as the most popular type of winch line. This is because synthetic rope offers many benefits over wire cable including a much lower risk of kinking, snagging or damage when it breaks.

Synthetic winch ropes are made from synthetic fibers like Dyneema Sk75 which is a strong and durable material that is resistant to water, rot and mildew. It is also UV resistant and very strong, making it great for use in a wide range of situations and applications. Steel Winch Cable is another option for your winch, but it can be a less reliable choice due to rust and sharp burrs that can cut your hands. Rust weakens the steel, causing it to break more easily when under a lot of stress and is a serious problem for anyone who uses a winch on a regular basis. We recommend picking a good quality, galvanized wire rope for your winch cable. For cables 3/8" and up, pick a galvanized 7x19 WCS made from IPS (Improved Plow Steel) or EIPS (Extra Improved Plow Steel). This will provide you with a high strength wire rope that is easy to maintain and should last for a long time.
